Household waste is generally eliminated via sewer and septic lines. The main difference in their hooking up lies in the utilization. Sewer lines comprise of other household waste from the laundry, kitchen or bathing areas while septic lines carry human waste exclusively.

All houses have septic tanks that are strategically placed close to the construction to eliminate waste efficiently. Sewer lines on the other hand collect sewage from a series of homes or buildings along the street to dispose off at proper treatment plants.

Different types, sizes and lengths of pipe are used for both types of drainage. Sewer lines are made of concrete, PVC, cast iron or other galvanized metals while septic pipes are available only in specific materials and sizes according to required standards.
