Tarring and Gravelling your Flat Roof

Tarred and graveled roofs are expected to last for at least 20 years after they have been installed eliminating almost all the possibilities of leaking roofs. Make sure the roof is clean and free of drastic depressions. Wear knee caps to avoid accidents and lay out the felt or tar paper evenly and spread the tar with a mop or trowel. Once you are done with a row cover with the second sheet of felt before the first tar layer dries.

Repeat the process on the second row and so on until you have all the area covered up leaving vents, pipes and skylights. Two tar and felt coats are enough for regions that experience less rain or snowfall.

Once all the levels are complete start applying tar again from the starting point covering with gravel instead of felt as you go along. Ensure that the gravel is broadcasted evenly.
