DIY construction is probably the best way to go for a remodeling or construction when you have a lot of ideas, do not wish to spend much on expert advice and also want to involve your family members in renovating your house.
You would need to plan your activities well ahead for a smooth operation. Be sure to check that you have all the necessary equipments in your tool box before you start off.
Do some research and talk to people about the materials you need to get, be it the type of ply or the hinges or even the color. Spend enough time designing the pieces you are going to work on.
Have a proper sketch in front of you once you start your work. Be extra careful while taking measurements. Also, do not compromise on the quality of raw material because these will be the chief factors when it comes to the longevity of the structures you create.

While installing crown molding in your home you are likely to encounter a series of vents and other obstacles that can interrupt the smooth laying of the molding. While it would be easy to circumnavigate these obstacles ordinarily, crown moldings require careful consideration.
The option here is to cut a return piece as professionally as you can using the right tools for a perfect finish. First measure from the corner of the wall to the vent and transfer the measurements onto the molding.
Using a miter saw cut the molding at a degree as you would for corner pieces. The end of the molding should be fitted with a return cap that is again cut in the opposite direction using a miter saw.
Stick the return piece with wood glue and mask both pieces on the surface with painters tape until the glue dries and the crown molding is secured.

Waterproofing
Waterproofing a leaking basement does not always require outside help, it is an easy to do project once you have determined and stopped the leakage at source.
With the safety gear on to avoid suffocation or strong bleach smells, strip of paint, dirt and debris in the specific area with the help of a durable brush, sand paper or a hired sand blaster. Cover all stains with bleach or muriatic acid.
Even out the wall by filling in cracks and depressions with hydraulic cement. Proceed to paint walls with waterproofing paint meant especially for this job. This paint is available at most hardware or paint shops.
Apply the first coat with a brush in circular motions to rub it into the cracks and uneven surfaces on the wall and let dry. Follow up with two to three more coats with a roller allowing sufficient time to dry in between coats.

Wall Care
Travertine a form of limestone is being used as both floor and wall tiles regularly these days. It is porous in nature and textured on the surface yet extremely beautiful to add in almost any place in your home.
These tiles are usually installed with grout to act as a sealant between tiles. However it’s equally advisable to lay travertine tiles without grout for a traditional look.
To install grout less travertine wall tiles measure the wall from the very centre and work towards the corners for an even fit. Apply thin set mortar to the wall and the tile and press together until they are stuck. Clean out excess mortar from relevant sides and continue with the rest of the tiles checking for accuracy at regular intervals.
Once the wall is tiled apply a good quality sealant that will keep the tiles from staining easily especially in wet areas.

The shallow area between the ground and the first floor of a house that is generally used to access pipes, architectural substructures or for storage is called a crawl space.
Crawl spaces were predominant in all houses built prior to the twentieth century. However they are still a common feature in some houses even today and use a thin plastic ground cover to act as a vapor barrier between the soil and the constructed house.
A shovel and a wheelbarrow or any other container can be used to effectively deepen a crawl space. Start by removing the plastic sheet or ground cover from the farthest wall and dig to remove dirt and debris if any.
Recover with the plastic ground cover as you go along. Wheel or carry out the dug out soil immediately ensuring that it is thrown out fast instead of left to pile for a long period.
