Texturing the Walls for Hiding Imperfections

January 12, 2011  //  Posted by: admin  //  Category: Wall Care

Any and all imperfections in a wall can be hidden with textured paints. Regardless of the various treatments available today its better to create a texture that blends in with the other décor elements of the said room.

Once you have chosen the type of texture clear the room of all furniture and other items and lay a protective covering on the floor. Cover electric switch boards and outlets. Sand the designated area to strip existing layers of paint and to create a rough surface for primer application.

Let the primer dry before you start the final paint. Mix the textured paint as per the directions on the tin. Spray, roll or trowel the textured element onto the wall. Some treatments may require the use of towels or rags to get the desired effect.

Leave the first coat to dry and apply the next coats drying efficiently in between coats.

Taping and Floating Corners

Taping and floating drywall corners normally involves the three main steps of taping the drywall joints, using drywall compound to effectively cover them and finally sanding them to get a smooth finish.

Mix the drywall compound with water to make a smooth not runny paste with a mixer. Stick the drywall tape on the join from the ceiling to floor or left to right to cover both ends vertically or horizontally as per the need leaving a marginal section out on both ends.

Apply a thin layer of drywall compound from top to bottom or left to right in a consistent motion without causing bumps or air bubbles with a putty knife and corner tool. Make sure you tuck in the ends seamlessly with the compound. Let dry and apply next two coats.

Leave overnight to dry thoroughly and sand for a smooth even finish such that it looks inconspicuous.

Laying Travertine without Having Space

Travertine a form of limestone is being used as both floor and wall tiles regularly these days. It is porous in nature and textured on the surface yet extremely beautiful to add in almost any place in your home.
These tiles are usually installed with grout to act as a sealant between tiles. However it’s equally advisable to lay travertine tiles without grout for a traditional look.

To install grout less travertine wall tiles measure the wall from the very centre and work towards the corners for an even fit. Apply thin set mortar to the wall and the tile and press together until they are stuck. Clean out excess mortar from relevant sides and continue with the rest of the tiles checking for accuracy at regular intervals.

Once the wall is tiled apply a good quality sealant that will keep the tiles from staining easily especially in wet areas.
